Fun Valentine's decorations

Well, Christmas came and went. We had a wonderful holiday season and I hope you all did too. It has been a while since I've blogged and I know, I'm a slacker. I always have good intentions to do an update, but life gets in the way. Anyway, so here I am....finally updating...YEAH!

Today I'm going to show you what I've done lately. As you know, Valentine's day is around the corner and I have had so much fun making a few decorations with my Silhouette. It's such a fun little machine! I guess I actually have only done one thing with it, but I have a whole bunch of ideas in my head and my sister and I are working on something for our kids and husbands. So as I do them I will post them for you all to see. The first thing I've done are these cute vinyl cuts. I had this triple framed mirror by my door, which I love, but I felt it needed something added to it. So I thought I would add some fun little vinyl to it for every holiday. (It comes off really easy after the holiday's.) This is what my mirror looks like and by the way, sorry for the picture quality it is tricky taking pictures of a mirror without getting yourself in the picture.

Decorating for Christmas

The last couple weeks I've been busy getting my house ready for Christmas. I love this time of year! It has been so fun to do new things to decorate. Like for example, last year for my birthday my sister, Hannah from Lily and Thistle, gave me a Silhouette. Let me just say that I've had quite a bit of fun with it through out the year, but not as much fun as I've had this holiday season. I've done a lot with it. Here are just some of the projects...

Christmas countdown

Want to know how I made this....

I used a pizza pan, cut the vinyl letters and images out, and stuck them down. Then I printed these cute little markers, to mark the days as we count down to Christmas, onto magnet sheets. I only need one but couldn't decide which one I liked best, so I printed them all.

Next is my entry way decor...

I LOVE IT!

The trees I cut with my Silhouette and put them together. The holly berries I got at the dollar store. The picture is my favorite. I saw it on pinterest and recreated it in my Silhouette software (which is basically photo shop).

I love my new entry way for Christmas...so simple! I might put something else in it, but if I don't get around to doing anything, I think it looks just fine the way it is. What do you think?

Daily Menu Board

This is just a fun little project I did one day. I got the platter at the dollar store, sprayed chalkboard paint on it and slapped on the vinyl letters (carefully, of course), and voila, a daily menu board. My kids love it and so do I because they're not always asking me what's for dinner, lunch, etc.

If you would like to do this but don't have a Silhouette or cricut, or know anyone that does, then you can go to my shop and purchase the vinyl. It would make a great gift don't you think?! You don't have to use a platter, but I think it kind of works in the kitchen. Don't you?

Goodies for the holidays

Hello everyone! Here are some of the things I have been working on lately.

This year we needed a new treat plate to set out for Santa. So I got out my trusty Silhouette and cut some letters, this cute little tree and stars and now we have a cute plate for Santa's treats.

I needed more Thanksgiving decorations, so I made this.

This plate is meant as a decoration only, as it's made with vinyl, and I don't know how I would wash it with out taking the vinyl off.

It looks pretty cute on our piano though

and the candy corn is for all we are thankful for......the kids loved that!

These were fun to create.

I saw some like these online somewhere and thought I could make those.

Do you want to know how to make these cuties.....

1. Cut your ribbon (grosgrain) in the shape of petals and heat seal the edges.

To heat seal; just lightly run a lighter or flame around edges until they are sealed.

Careful not to burn them.

2. Take a needle and thread and sew along the bottom of each pedal.

3. When you sew all of the bottoms, connect to the first pedal and sew it up really well.

Next, you end up with poinsetta's like these.

Now you can decorate them however you like and put them on a ribbon covered clip or a pin for the brooch.

F.H.E.; Journal writing

Before I start my post, I'd like to apologize for not being very good lately at keeping my blog. Since the last post we have had many things happen (all good). First of all, we traveled, by car, to San Antonio, Texas. (It's about a 23 hour drive, ugg!) We went there to visit my husbands family who live there. His younger sister, Danielle and her sweet family just welcomed a new little one and we went to attend the blessing of their baby girl and also to party hard at their little boy's 5th birthday party. Good times were had by all.
Then, when we got back home from that, there was Halloween and a 4 day weekend for the kids. We had a good Halloween /Nevada day. The kids costumes were pretty cute and creative if I must say. Our oldest, Dallin was Link....from Zelda. Our next boy, Calvin was a guy from one of his video games, Raze...kinda like Halo (if you know what that is, if not count yourself lucky. Ha!) Our next one, Elsa was Kit Kittredge dressed in her hobo clothes. Elsa has read all of Kit's books and loves her. Our youngest, Abby wanted to be a barbie and we got a wig for her, then one day out of the blue she changed her mind.....again. (She had been doing that quite often) and wanted to be a girl spider. I thought that would be fun to create and I hadn't gotten too far on her barbie costume, so I made a spider costume and a couple big bows for her hair. She was a spider for her cousins birthday/halloween party in Texas, but then for the actual holiday she went back to wanting to be a barbie. So since we already had the wig, and a dress-up carousel with a LOT of dress-ups, I let her change her mind. After all it does only come around once a year, right?! Well, October was great, but now it's time to start getting ready for Thanksgiving and then CHRISTMAS! I love this time of year!

Tonight we had our Family home evening. For those of you who don't know what that is. It is something we do in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints every Monday. We get together and have a little lesson about different things pertaining to the Gospel of Jesus Christ such as loving one another, service, prayer, paying tithing, etc. It's something our leaders have told us to do to make our families closer together and to teach our child how to make good choices and be good people. Anyway, tonight I did the lesson (we rotate responsibilities) and I have been wanting to get my children to start writing in their journals, since they are getting old enough to start doing that. (The oldest is 12, then 11(on Wed.), then 8 and finally 6 years old). So I did a lesson on journal writing and how God commanded the prophets of old to keep a record so that we could have them to read and learn from. (Which are the Bible and Book of Mormon.) Then I applied that to us today and explained that we need to keep a record for our children and grandchildren and so on.
I remember when I was young and I had to write in my journal. Sometimes I just didn't know what to write about and I now that I am a mother I knew how my kids felt when I told them they needed to start writing in their journals. So to make it easy for them, I went to the dollar store and got four tin boxes. Then got online and googled "journal prompts" and a whole bunch came up. So I printed off a few and I let the kids decorate their own "Journal Jars". Elsa, my 8 year old was especially excited, because this is what she loves to do. She loves to write stories and decorate things. Abby loved making hers also. The boys made theirs but they weren't too excited about it. (They're "pre-teens") Anyway, here is how they turned out.

The snowflakes were already on them.

She wrote, like, five journal entry's and of course drew pictures

I used my Silhouette to make the decal's and words...I love that thing!

Full of journal prompts....now they have no excuse to not write in their journals, right?

Fall is in the air

Yes, even in our area! To celebrate it and because most of our Fall/Halloween decorations are worn out I made a couple new ones. Well, not made but added to some. For example this fall garland needed something so I added this banner and when Halloween is over, I'll change it out to a Thanksgiving one. Not much I know but this is what I have so far. Happy Fall!

They are so fun with the personalized checker pieces. I'm gonna do a Halloween one with pictures of the kids in their costumes from years past. That will make checkers a lot more fun, don't you think?!

Is your house a house of order?

Not my sink (though I wish it was)

I love it when my house is clean, although I do not like cleaning it. Perhaps the reason could be that I have five extra bodies in the house messing it up as they go. They come home from school, leave their back packs, shoes, lunch boxes, etc. where ever they feel like it and I feel like I'm constantly telling telling them to pick stuff up and "put that away" or "throw that away". Does any of this sound familiar at your house. I mean, are you always trying to get the house clean just to find out that your "little angel" just messed up what you just cleaned or do you try to organize things and it seems like a never ending task sometimes?
Well, I'm starting a program with my sister to help me AND MY FAMILY to keep the house looking spotless just by doing little things. Today is the first day of this program so if anyone wants to join in, then we can all do it together and give each other support, encouragement, advice, etc.

How to: Make pinwheels

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to show you how to make these cute little pinwheels. My sister-in-law asked me if I could do a tutorial on how to do them, so that she can teach her Activity day girls how to do them. If anyone doesn't know, Activity days is a group of girls ages 8-11 years old in the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints (or Mormons). They get together about twice a month and do little activities where they learn different skills, make lasting friendships, and just have fun. My oldest girl just turned 8 this year and loves Activity days (or Achievement days, as it's also called). Well, I also learned that one of the Activity day leaders in my congregation wants my daughter and I too teach some fun little craft to our girls. So I thought of this one as well. It's super easy and super fun! So let's get started shall we?

First we will need; -4-3" squares of fabric (2 of one fabric and 2 of a coordinating fabric)
-Heat n' bond

-Scissors

-Hot glue gun

So, now that we have everything we need, first thing you want to do is;

Take your 3" squares and place them carefully on the the Heat n' Bond, so that your iron does NOT touch the Heat n' Bond only the fabric. Press the fabric to the Heat n' Bond for about 30 seconds or until all of it is adhered together. Let it cool. (It only takes a couple of minutes)

Next, cut out the squares and flip them over. Then peel the backing off and put the other two pieces of fabric on it and iron it down to it. Again, press for about 30 seconds or so.

Then, of course, let it cool. (The fabric will get stiffer as it cools). Then, trim the edges.

So they look nice and clean....like this.

Next, cut from each corner to the center a little but not all the way to the center. Like so...

Then take the right corner of each section you just cut and bring it to the center and glue just the corner down. (You can also sew it if you want to) I found both ways make it just as durable.

Do this all the way around, gluing each corner down.

...and soon...

...you end up with....

THIS!

Then do the other one. You can flip it over to get the opposite effect...or not and have them be identical. (Your choice) I decided to sew mine because I couldn't find my glue sticks.

This is what they look like when you flip the other one over. Cute enough don't you think?

Once you're done with that, you can put anything on them. I liked this triple ribbon tie. You can also put cute buttons on, or anything. Be creative! That's the fun of it, right?!

I put some on headbands for my girls.

This one I made 2" pinwheels by cutting the squares 2 inches.

So now you know how to make pinwheels. Now go and make some and have fun with it!

Our Family sign.....it's fixed!

So we had this cute sign that my sister, Hannah (from Lily and Thistle), made for us for Christmas a few years back. We've haven't been able to put it up because right after she painted it she realized that she had painted it upside down. On the back there is a keyhole to hang it up with and that keyhole was on the bottom. So it had been sitting and waiting for us to get our act together and put another keyhole at the top. Since my husband has the tools already to do it, we really have no excuse but we just put it off until now. So finally we now have a super cute sign hanging up in our dining area right above our dinner table. That's fitting seeing as how that's where we do most of our visiting, laughing, loving, etc.

Getting things done.......finally

In my last post I told you about the list of projects that I am working on. Well, I'm happy to report that I not only got one thing checked off the list, but 4, yes, 4 things finished. The first one is Abby's outfit for school....except she didn't wear on the first day of school, she wore it to church. That's o.k. though. I made a jumper. It was inspired by this one from Chasing Fireflies. I love their stuff, but it is a little too pricey for me. I love to get their catalogs, however, because their clothes look so cute and easy to make. I'm glad I took pictures of her in the jumper before church, because the bow came off during church. That's o.k. though because I think I'm going to make the bow a little bigger.

Then I will post the final projects right here with tutorials for some of them. As you can see I already marked off Elsa's 1st day of school outfit. Yeah! It always feels good to cross things off our list doesn't it?! I will post pictures of her outfit later, when she wears it. I told her she has to wait until Monday, the 1st day of school. She can hardly wait to put it on. I'm so glad she loves it! Well, I hope everyone is enjoying their last week of summer, unless they started school already where you live. I know we are at times and at other times I can't wait for them to be in school and have a quiet house for a few hours. I love my kids! Have a great day!

Girls summer hairstyles

As summer is winding to a close, I have been pretty busy with getting the kids ready for the school year, keeping them busy so that they're not "bored" (as they would say), and just trying to pass the the time until they're back in school and the house is quiet for at least 4 to 6 hours a day again. Does that sound bad? I love my kids, but sometimes I need a break. You know?
Well, as these days of summer are going, I have been sleeping in a bit, my kids too. They are at that wonderful stage of sleeping in too or if they DO wake up earlier than the rest of us they know not to wake anyone. (Love it and enjoying it until school starts). Anyway, I've been able to do my girls hair about every other day. Since they don't have to be anywhere I don't think about their hair unless, of course, we do have to go somewhere. (Which hasn't happened very often this summer). Here are a couple of hair styles I thought of as I was doing my girls hair, because that's how I do it. I have no idea most of time what I'm to do with their hair until I just start to do it. (Sometimes they have their own opinions, though)

This is my daughter, Elsa right before bedtime with her hair taken out. This is also what her hair has been lookin' like just about everyday that we don't have to go anywhere. I know, I'm bad. I can't wait 'til school starts and I get to be creative everyday with her hair and her sisters. (Now her sister's hair is long enough for quite a few styles, Yea!)

This hairstyle was fun to create. I started out just twisting her hair on top and I was going leave the rest down. (Which would have been pretty), but since we were going somewhere (outside), I thought she would be cooler if I got her hair up and off of her neck. So I did a fish tail and ended it with a firework. (I just pulled the hair half way through the elastic on the last turn.)

This is my other daughter, Abby. She wanted two pony tails and this was how I achieved it with her hair still being too short for full-on, straight pony tails. I braided the front parts to keep the short pieces back in the pony tails. She was so pleased!

This was another attempt to put her hair on one pony tail. (Which she wanted) So I did a hair headband, then put the rest of the hair back.

This is one happy customer!

This hairstyle is one I got from cutegirlshairstlyes.com. Well, the double twisted ponytail part is. I french twisted her hair, did the double twist with the ponytail, then ended it with a firework. Then adorned it with the cute little pinwheel clippy I made.

Oh What do you do in Summertime?

When all the kids are home! Well, around here, we've been keepin' busy with chores. (Much to the kids dismay.)

But chores only last an hour, most days, and are finished in the morning.

So they've been able to get some quality play time in.

My son, Calvin, was finally able to talk his Dad and me into helping him with a project;

Hoover shoes.

More on that when they're finished. Now that's one happy boy!

Pretty cool so far, huh?!

The girls have really had fun with their dolls, making movies, taking pic's, pretending all sorts of things with them. It's been fun to watch them play (from a distance).

Of course, staying cool in this hot, HOT summer by going to pool,

slippin' on slides, etc.

Gettin' some quality cousin time in.

I've also been sewing away trying to get my sewing to do list done. I will post those projects soon, so stay tuned!

Cute Hairstyles

These are just a couple of hairstyles that I came up with as I was brushing my daughters hair. Do you ever do that? I mean do you ever start brushing yours or your daughters (or anyone's) hair without knowing what you're going to do. Then it just comes to you, "Hey, this style would look cute." or "Let me try this." My daughter sometimes hates when I do that, because I try several things, sometimes over and over until I get it right. She just gets bored and wants to go play of something.

This one I did for church. I call it the "Triple flip ponytail". I'm not very creative with names of things. So if you have a better name, please share!

This is a birds-eye view of it!

This one is called "Wrap around pony-fishtail". See no creativity. Oh well.

I did this one for school one day when I actually had time to do it. Usually we were rushing in the mornings.

You start out on the top of one side with your continuous pony's...

...and go in a diagonal direction, until you get to the bottom of the other side. Tie it off with an elastic, then do a fish tail to finish it off and add a cute ribbon or cute little clippy.

This one got a LOT of compliments!

Jewelry, Hairstyles, and a Great Sale!

Well the Fourth of July came and went and we had a good time celebrating it this year. One of the things that made it so fun was in the morning my Mom, sister and I got out the jewelry making stuff for the little girls in our family and had fun making bracelets and necklaces.

Make your own patches

Here I am dealing with holey jeans again. Before I made skirts, shorts, dresses, etc. Well this time I decided to try to make my own patches. I had some cute fabric and some Heat n' Bond. So this is what I did.

First I ironed on the Heat n Bond to the fabric.

Then I got one of my cookie cutters and traced around it and cut out the shape.

Then placed it over the hole

Then, peeled the backing off the Heat n Bond and ironed it to the pants.

Then, I stitched around the the patch to keep it from peeling off later after washings and wear. Note: I seam ripped the side of the pants to make it easier to sew it with the sewing machine. Then I just sewed the side of the pant leg back up. Just a little trick I figured out.
So now go and make your own patches and save those pants! Have a great day and thanks for dropping by today!

I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July weekend. We spent ours up in Sparks, Nevada, where the weather was nice and the company was good! My whole family got together and had fun playing on slip n' slides, roasting hotdogs/marshmallows, and setting off fireworks.

My son WAS really happy to be there celebrating...he's just 12! You know, too cool to smile. Ha ha!

A moment to cherish

Well about four months ago, we moved to another house. So that means I get to redecorate. Well, I decided that since we're are renting that I would use my Silhouette and I would put up vinyl through out my home. Well, I started with my living room because, naturally, that is the room that get the MOST attention. I wanted to do something special in that room and I came up with the idea of creating a themed wall to "Cherish the moment". I love to look back at my kids scrapbooks when they were babies...now that they're twelve through five. (I can't believe how fast time flies!) So I thought it would be nice to put some of my favorite pic's upon the wall. The pictures I chose were ones that I took of them back in 2007 when they were ages 8 to 10 months. My friend and I decided we were going to have fun with our kids and dress them up "old timey" style and take vintage pictures. We got a LOT of cute ones, so it was hard to pick my favorite ones. These were the ones I chose. Then I cut the phrase, "A moment to cherish", which I got from the Silhouette shop, and stuck it to the wall and added a little shelf and some other things and VOILA, the wall was finished! Now I have a wall to look at a remember how cute my kids were. Ha Ha! They still are of course!

I finally finished

Well I finally finished both my girls summer night gowns. I had some fabric left over and thought that I would make a little night gown for each of their dolls. I finished Elsa's dolls, but Abby's doll will have to wait because my sewing machine is acting very strange. I'm going to take it to my Mom's when we go to our reunion and see if she can figure it out. (I'm at a loss....She's a whiz when it comes to stuff like that.) Aren't Mom's great!?! Anyway, so here it is on Elsa and her doll. I also got pictures of both them wearing their nightgowns and holding their pillows.


Yeah, I know. I could've combed her dolls bangs down.			But I just love this one.

Fathers day

A few weeks ago, we went to Reno to visit my family. While we were there I thought I would get a head start and make my Dad and the kids Grandpa (aka Papa) a gift for Fathers day. I thought to do this just a couple days before we left to go, so it had to be a quick and easy project. I thought it might be fun to have the kids help me design a t-shirt for him. He is such a good sport and wears just about anything he gets. So a shirt designed by his grand kids should be fun for him, right? I thought so. Well this is what we came up with and since Dallin, our oldest, is staying there until we go in July for a reunion, he gets to give it to Papa and represent us.

We chose a picture of our youngest, Abby rockin' out, since "Papa rocks"!

This is how we did it. 1. We found the perfect picture.
                                    2. Took it to picnik.com fixed it just the way we wanted it.
                                    3. Printed it onto iron-on transfer paper (for dark colors)
                                    4. Then ironed it onto the shirt.
See? Simple, right?! I think the hardest part was getting four kids to agree on one design. HeHeHe!

Mini me pillows

As many of you know, my sister Hannah, creates these amazing paper dolls. Well, of course my girls have these dolls and play with them a LOT! Hannah and I are working on something to go along with the paper dolls, but for now see what I created for my girls room.

Now they have their very own, personalized, pillow....and they love it!

A new night gown for Abigail

Well, it is now summer, or at least summer-like weather, where we are living and my girls have been asking for night gowns for summer. So I set to work and made up a pattern and sewed the first one. There a couple of things I am going to change on the second one, but I think Abby's night gown turned out pretty cute.

Teacher Appreciation & Mothers day gifts

So I was driving this morning and as I passed the school I noticed on the bulletin board in front of the school that this week was teacher appreciation week. I don't know why but I thought it was next week. I'm glad I saw that today.
Well, that got me thinking about what I should do for my kids teachers. I thought since I already had my jewelry making supplies out, since Mothers day is this Sunday and I needed to get something in the mail for my Mom.
I would make each of their teachers a bracelet. I thought it was different than what they usually get and it's something that will last. I also made these fun little earrings for my Mom, and Grandma and they are now available in my shop. I failed to get pictures of the necklaces I made for them, so I'll have to have them send a picture of them to me when they open them up. I guess I was in too much of a hurry to get their package ready and sent. I am just proud of myself that I actually got a mothers day gift out and on time this year.

It's back just in time for Summer!

Repurposed summer skirts

What do you do with your little girls pants after she grows out of them and she is the last to wear them in the family? Do you give them to a friend who you know will use them? Do you give them away to charity? Yeah, I do too, but this time I repurposed them and made skirts for my girls. They were a little time consuming sewing on the embellishments, but it was fun to make them look cute and my girls love their "new" summer skirts.

Pajama makeover

I made these winter pajamas into spring/summer pajamas. I just cut off the leg to the length that I wanted, then I cut a strip from the leg part that I was just gonna throw away. I cut it about an inch wide and the length of the pants. (Does that make sense?) Then I sewed right in the middle of the strip and gathered it to make the ruffle and sewed it to the bottom of the shorts. Then I cut off the arms to the length I wanted for my girls sleeve length. I hem them, and there you go. The perfect Spring/Summer pajama's.

On Saturday, my girls and I were home by our selves since their brothers had scout day camps and their Dad had to go into work. So after we all finished our chores I got out the hair bows stuff and we made hair bows. It was so fun to spend the day with just my girls. Later, we went out to lunch to Wendy's (their choice). They had fun and I got to just sit and talk with them. Mostly we told jokes and talked about nothing in particular, but I loved that we got that time for just us girls.

I bet you all thought I went A.W.O.L. didn't you! Well, I feel like I did too. A lot has been going on at our home. We recently moved to a different house, just a few blocks from our old. It was quite a process even that short of a distance. I guess when you live somewhere for 8 years you get settled, especially when a garage is concerned. Let me just say that I don't want to do that again for a long time. Then there was the unpacking, and organizing (which I'm still doing). I've got most of it done, or the most important stuff anyway. You know my craft stuff. hehehe :).
I thought I needed to update my craft blog to let you all, those of you who still read it, know that I am still here and being creative or at least thinking of ways to be creative. I'm working on decorating my girls room. I will have pictures and a whole post for that later. I am also working on something big with my sister from Lily and Thistle. We are both really excited about this one. We will reveal it when we have it all ready.
So stay tuned for that! Hopefully we'll have it all ready very soon. In the mean time I will keep you posted on how I decorate my new home.

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while, but frankly I haven't felt like it. Yes, the flu bug entered our home. It started with my youngest, then went to me, which I'm feeling much better, (still have a fever) but I have enough energy to keep the house picked up (a little), do the dishes and do the laundry. Then it went to my boys this morning. My other daughter hasn't caught it yet or my husband and I hope they don't. I got some Zycam and the boys and I are taking it religiously. Well, enough about me and my problems here is something FUN for you to decorate your home with.

A new hat and scarf for Abby

About a month ago, when it started getting cold. I was at JoAnn Fabrics, I saw some really cute fleece in the remnants basket. There was just a little less than a yard rolled up, so I bought it and made this hat and scarf for Abby. It was so easy and the only sewing I did was around the hat...oh yeah and I sewed on the pockets. She loves it and wears it everyday!

Hello everyone! I hope all your Holidays were great! Mine was simply unforgettable. We went up to Reno to be with my parents and the rest of the family. It was so good to be with everyone and create new memories.
One of the ways it was so unforgettable was when my husband, kids and I first got there. My family had a birthday breakfast for me. Yes, I am one of the lucky ones to have a birthday close to Christmas. After blowing out my candle that my mom put in my pancake, I ate, then my dear sister brought me two candles that smell heavenly. Then proceeded to bring out more gifts. The first gift was vinyl for a silhouette machine. She said it was for when I bought or won one in a giveaway or something. Then, gift #2 was a gift card for the Silhouette store. Then, my sister-in-law, Camille said she had ordered some tools for doing projects on a silhouette, but they didn't get there in time. O.k. so do you see a pattern here. The last and final gift was......you guessed it.....a Silhouette machine. I could not believe it! After thanking her many, many times, I started to think of all sorts of projects I could do. My first project that I did was for my mom's laundry room downstairs. (Since that's where I set it up while I was there.) It's just a simple sign that says "Laundry" then has an arrow pointing down at the washer and dryer. It's cute, but you'll have to take my word for it because I didn't get a picture of it. But I did get a picture of my next project. I made a "Welcome" sign for my front door. It's funny, before I got one of these machines, I had all kinds of ideas in mind, and now that I have one I can't think of any ideas. I know they will start coming back to me the more I think about and do them. So here is my front door....

Joke of the day

Just thought that you might like this joke. My oldest boy and I did.

So there's this fella with a parrot. And this parrot swears like a sailor. I mean he's a pistol. He can swear for five minutes straight without repeating himself.

Trouble is, the guy who owns him is a quiet, conservative type, and this bird's foul mouth is driving him crazy.
One day, it gets to be too much, so the guy grabs the bird by the throat, shakes him really hard, and yells, "QUIT IT !".
But this just makes the bird mad and he swears more than ever.
Then the guy gets mad and says, "OK for you", and locks the bird in a kitchen cabinet. This really aggravates the bird, and he claws and scratches, and when the guy finally lets him out, the bird cuts loose with a stream of vulgarities that would make a veteran sailor blush.
At that point, the guy is so mad that he throws the bird into the freezer. For the first few seconds, there is a terrible din. The bird kicks and claws and thrashes. Then it suddenly gets very very quiet.
At first the guy just waits, but then he starts to think that the bird may be hurt. After a couple of minutes of silence, he's so worried that he opens up the freezer door.
The bird calmly climbs onto the man's outstretched arm and says: "Awfully sorry about the trouble I gave you. I'll do my best to improve my vocabulary from now on."
The man is astounded. He can't understand the transformation that has come over the parrot. Then the parrot says, "By the way, what did the chicken do?"

Halloween costumes that is. I just finished my son, Calvin's today. Just in time for his Cub Scouts. Ever since we saw Transformer costumes (that really transform) on youtube. Calvin's has been asking to be a Transformer (that really transforms). So, like any good mom, I set to work. With a little help from his Dad this is what we came us with. This has been the most challenging costume, yet the most rewarding. What costumes have YOU been proud of?

Bubble skirts and Halloween Costumes

I loved these skirts! After seeing these skirts on Ruffles And Stuff, I decided that I would make them for my girls for their Christmas dresses. So I decided I would practice making them with some beautiful fabric I got on clearance at JoAnn's for the girls for their primary program on Sunday, yesterday. I made them BOTH in just a couple of hours. They were super easy and I was quite pleased with how they turned out. I am definately going to make Christmas bubble skirts for them this year. With a cute sweater and some cute tights. They will look adorable and I can't wait to get started on them. First though, I need to make them their Halloween costumes. Elsa wants to be a black cat and Abby wants to be Hello Kitty as a ballerina. She is so funny with her costumes. They are always unique. Last year she loved gingerbread girls (not boys), so she had to be a Gingerbread Girl. It took some creative thinking on my part, but I think she was quite happy with what I came up with. So this year I'm pretty confident that she'll be happy with what I come with. I will be sure to take lots of pictures to share with all of you.

Fall bobby's

These are something that I whipped up one night because I was just sick of my old, boring clips that I use to clip my hair back with. These are SO SIMPLE that I'm sure you'll make a ton for fall, winter, spring, or heck, every season and/or occasion. I know I'm going to. The best part is; there was no sewing or glue involved.

This is all you'll need for this project;

bobby pins

cute ribbon

glue (if you want it to be really secure.)

I didn't use glue and they stayed intact the whole day, and in place. (Even in my 7 and 5 year old girls hair.) Yeah, I love these cute little clips for both me and my girls.


Put the ribbon (before cutting it) through the end of the bobby. Then tie one good & fairly tight knot. Then twist and turn the "bow" until it looks good to you. (If you want to glue it down then put a dab of glue right under the knot before you tie the knot tight.) What is your favorite part of Fall?			If you cut the ribbon you could cut it too short and then it's harder to tie.

Abby's new hat

This is the hat that I made for my daughter. I got the idea and pattern from HERE. I made it from a couple of old t-shirts of hers that she got paint on. It was great to get to use those shirts again and not just throw them out. Thanks to Cheri from I am Momma...Hear me roar for this awesome tutorial.

Old to New 2

For those of you who didn't see my first "old to new" project you can go here to see it if you wish. Today, I'm going to show you what I did for my next "old to new" project.

I turned these cute, but old shoes with missing buttons......

......into these.

The first thing I did was removed the rest of the buttons off the shoes, stuffed them with newspaper......

....roughed them up a little with some sand paper. So that the paint would stick to the shoes.

Then I spray painted the shoes and let them dry for an hour or so.

Then I sewed on the buttons; I threaded the buttons with elastic, then sewed the ends of the elastic to the shoes.

When I got to this point I thought, "Hey, they look pretty darn cute just like this."

and my daughter liked them too.

But I went ahead and put some bling on them with E-6000 glue anyway.

Then when I showed my daughter the finished product, she hurried and took the bling off.

Apparently, she liked the plain buttons more than the bling. Good thing the glue didn't dry all the way or we'd never get them off. Anyway, I figured, "Hey, their her shoes, she can have them how she wants them."

Personally I like both ways.

Back to school ideas

I've decided that with school starting in just a couple of weeks, I would focus on doing things for my kiddos to get them ready for school. So come back often to see what I come up with.

Today, is "Summertime Clippy's". I call them that because I sell these particular ones in my etsy shop, but decided to share how I made them with all of you because they're so fast and easy and if you're anything like me you'd want a couple to go with every outfit of your little girls new school clothes. Am I right? O.k. so here it is...

Make your own "Summertime Clippy's"

These are pretty simple and don't take a lot of time.

This is what you're going to need...

Scraps of fabric

A square of felt

2 Snap clips

glue (of your choice)

Step 1: Cut 2 pieces from your fabric and felt

2 1/2 in. x 1 1/2in. Note: If you want to embroider or sew anything on the clippy, now's your time do to it. However, I'm going to put a butterfly on it with glue later.

Step 2: Cut a slit in the felt 1/2 inch from the edge. I know the photo says 1/4 inch, but it's really a 1/2 inch.

Step 3: Put the fabric and felt pieces together like so, and stitch around the rectangle as close to the edge as you can. Then, trim around the edges to clean it up a little.

Step 4: Slip your clip in, glue it and you're done unless....

You want to adorn them. I put this butterfly on it....

I just cut out the butterfly from the fabric and the felt, sewed around it, trimmed it and voila a cute little butterfly. Then glued it to one of the clips and there ya go. Cute little clippy's for your little girl or you. I wear them.

Now go have fun with it and make some to match every outfit.

Pretty little bracelets

Here are some of my latest creations with beads.

This one is my favorite. I call it "Three little flowers in a row".

These ones are more of my favorites. They're just fun little name bracelets. These are for my nieces.

This one is just for fun! I made this hair clippy for my daughter a long time ago and it's been sitting in my craft stuff waiting for me to fix it. I finally did. It used to have four little pearls along the top but they fell off and I didn't like the way they looked on the clippy. So I personalized it. I like it a lot better. It's so cute in my Abby's hair.
My bracelets and my Summertime clippy's are now in my shop. Also, stay tuned because I'm working on something great. I don't know when it will be ready to show, but I do know it will be worth the wait.

Another idea for pant-legs

We go through a LOT of pants in our home. Yeah, we have 2 boys who aren't very nice to their

pants. That's o.k. though because it makes for great dresses and skirts for our girls and great shorts for the boys (and our girls). For those of you that didn't see this tutorial for my pant-leg skirt you can go and see what I've done. Well, I've done something else with pant-legs. (Like I said before, we go through a lot of pants.) Anyway, here's what I've done.

This was actually made from a pair of my old jeans that I had had forever, they finally got a hole in the knee, so I made long shorts for me and this dress for Elsa. Also the shirt was one that had a hole at the bottom. (Apparently this girl isn't very nice to her shirts).
Sorry I don't have a picture of her wearing this dress. Elsa loves to wear it though, so I'm sure I'll get another chance to take a picture of it on her.

Old to New

About a week ago, Elsa came to me and showed me a hole in her shirt (that I just got for her btw). Anyway it was at the bottom, right in front. Well, I remembered a tutorial that I saw at Make it and Love it about re-purposing t-shirts and thought I would give it a try. I think it turned out rather nicely, don't you?

I think she likes it too!

This was made from my husbands old shirt that he was gonna give to charity. The ruffle on the top was from an old shirt of mine. Then I made a barrette to match for her hair. I used this tutorial.

Instead of using ribbon to tie at the shoulders, I made straps from some white scraps that I had on hand. I'm happy with the way this turned out and I think Elsa is too. What do you think?

My Summertime clippy's

These are my new summertime clippy's. The inspiration came when I made this jean skirt for my little girl (out of the pant legs on a pair of my old jeans, see tutorial) and accessorized it with these cute little "yoyo's" and thought, "I could make cute little clips to match." So that's what I did. They will be in in my shop very soon.

My Girls Hairstyles

Lately I've been doing some cute things with my little Abby's hair. It's been
tough to do her hair because it's been so short. (She's had a couple of "flings" with the scissors). Go here and here if you want to read about them. Many of you might follow our family blog so it would just be a review of what you already read/saw. Anyway, this little girl is quite the character. I think she has cut her hair about 3 or 4 times. Everytime she did it I would give her the same speech telling her that only a professional cuts it and asks why she cut it and everytime she answers "I wanted to look pretty." Well, the scissors are still up high and she is NOT allowed to use them even if I'm watching her. Just yesterday my son asked if I
would cut his hair and Abby said she wanted hers cut too. Yeah, I don't
think she's over it yet. Anyway, so I've following these hairstyle blogs
here and here for ideas for both my girls. My oldest girl, Elsa's hair is finally long

The Pant-leg skirt tutorial

Are your ready to make this , look like this!

O.k.....So this is what your going to need to make a skirt out of some pant legs.
1. Of course, you'll need a pair of pant legs
2. Scissors, ruler (or measuring tape)
3. 3/4 in. elastic
4. Ribbon, flowers, or anything you want to decorate it with.

So the first thing you'll want to do is cut each pant leg open right along the side of the inside seam, then just go ahead and cut off the entire inner seam.

So it should look like this
Then put the two pieces, right sides together, pin, and sew the sides.
BUT before you do that you might want to trim the top a
little to make it even. (It will help when it's time to make the casing for the elastic.)Then after the sides are sewn, press the seams to one side and stitch the seam down
(So it's easier to get the elastic through the casing.)
**NOTE: The "side" seams become the front and back seam. Although you could have the original "side" seam of the pant legs be the front and back seams,
that would look pretty cute too. Then measure 1/4 in. on the the top of the skirt, and sew.
Then measure 1 in. for the casing. You can do more or less, depending on how big your
pant legs are/what size your little girl is.
**Just remember if you make your casing smaller than 1 in. that your elastic should be smaller too. ;)
Then, once you sew the casing, put your elastic through, sew it together really well so that it doesn't come apart inside your casing. Then, sew the casing shut, decorate your skirt if you want and VOILA! You have a cute skirt for your little girl! Enjoy!

Happy St. Patrick's Day one and all! Sorry I'm getting this on here when the day is almost over, but I wanted to make sure I got this posted before the day ended, because I made these cute St. Patty's day bows for my girls to wear today. I whipped them up last night, they only took me a few minutes to put together and then I let the glue dry over night to make sure it was nice and strong.

Grasshopper fudge cake

1 11/4	I saw this in one of my emails from Betty Crocker, and thought it looked good enough to share. I'll definately try this for St. Patty's Day! box Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® white cake mix cups water
1/3	cup vegetable oil
2	teaspoons mint extract
3	egg whites
12	drops green food color
2	jars (16 oz each) hot fudge topping
1	container (8 oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed
5	drops yellow food color
	Thin rectangular crème de menthe chocolate candies, unwrapped and cut into pieces, if desired



	Print these coupons...





	About Concordance™

1.	Heat oven to 350°F for shiny metal or glass pan (or 325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Spray bottom only of 13x9-inch pan with baking spray with flour.
2.	Make cake mix as directed on box, using water, oil, 1 1/2 teaspoons of the mint extract and the egg whites. Reserve 1 cup batter. Stir 3 drops of the green food color into reserved batter; set aside. Pour remaining batter into pan.
3.	Drop green batter by generous tablespoonfuls randomly in 12 to 14 mounds onto batter in pan. Cut through batters with metal spatula or knife in S-shaped curves in one continuous motion. Turn pan 1/4 turn; repeat cutting for swirled design.
4.	Bake 28 to 33 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Run knife around side of pan to loosen cake. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
5.	Carefully spread fudge topping evenly over cake. In medium bowl, stir whipped topping, remaining 1/2 teaspoon extract, remaining 9 drops green food color and the yellow food color until blended. Spread whipped topping mixture evenly over fudge. Garnish with candy pieces. Store covered in refrigerator.
High Altitude (3500-6500 ft): No change.

So many projects...so little time

I've got so many projects in my head, yet not alot of time to sit down and dedicate myself to them and feel good about it. We're trying to de-junk our home and get it ready to sell if we need to. You see, my husband is looking for another job and there aren't a lot in our town right now. So the chances that he gets one out of town is very likely.
So bear with me for not keeping up with my blog as often as I should. Maybe I will post each room of my house as I get it done. (Before and After pictures)
In the meantime, here is what I made for my nieces for Christmas. I've meaning to post them, but like I said, I've been a little preoccupied.

Christmas dresses

As I was doctoring up our photos in Picnik, I realized that I never actually did a post to show you the Christmas dresses for the girls.
I got a Hanna Anderson catalogue in the a couple months ago and they had the cutest sweater dresses for prices a little above our price range. So I thought, "Hey, I could probably make these, Yeah, I could make these." So with the help of the blog "Make it and love it" which posted about repurposing sweaters, I set to work. It took 1 day to complete both dresses and they were only $3 each. (I got the sweaters at my local thrift store.)

If you think I came up with these cute hairstyles, you're wrong. I found an awesome website that is dedicated to showing the cutest hairstyles and showing you how to do them. It's called "The Story of a Princess and her hair". I have her button on the side of my site if you want to go there and check it out. She does amazing things with her daughters hair. These hairstyles that I did were my first attempts and I think they turned out pretty good considering I and my daughter are "beginners". I got my daughter to hold still by letting her play the computer while I did her hair. (Hey, don't judge. It works:) I can't wait for her hair to be longer. These styles will look even cuter. Anyway, this is one of my new favorite sites.

These are playing cards that I did for my husband for his birthday. I did playing cards because when we were dating, we loved to play uno, skipbo, speed, etc. and we played every chance we got. Snow flakes in the house?

Today, my kids and I decided to make our own snowflakes, since it probably won't snow again this year like it did last year. Of course we're not giving up hope. We're just trying to get in the Christmas spirit. (Not that we need help to get in it.) We love Christmas around here.
Abby and Elsa had fun making them. Abby felt a little frustrated at first when she would open hers up and it fell apart, but she got better as she went. Elsa loved making different ones, and she made some pretty cool ones. Dallin even made a couple. I made a couple, then really got into it and made everyone's initials in different snowflakes. See if you can see them. (D for Dallin, C for Calvin, E for Elsa and A for Abby.) This was a fun, spur of the moment activity and now we have snowflakes up in our dining room to help us stay in the Christmas spirit.

Car seat tutorial

A few years ago I recovered my little girls car seat to make it look more "girly". It was an ugly brown. Since then my little girl turned four and I just got rid of that car seat. As I was making it I did not take pictures so I apologize now for not having pictures of the process. The reason I'm doing this now is because my sister-in-law is having a little boy in February and has a little girl who used a girly looking car seat and as we all know boys just can't get away with sitting in a girly carseat. Right?

So let's begin...

Step 1: Take the car seat cover off of the seat. (The plastic pieces at the seat belt slots should be able to squeeze and push out.)
Step 2: Lay out your fabric wrong side up, then lay the car seat cover out on the fabric. Make sure it's laying as flat as you can get it to.
Step 3: Trace around the seat cover and make sure you trace about an inch around the seat for the seam allowances (only where you'll sew pieces together). You might want to trace it in sections. (The main part, the sides, etc.)
Step 4: Cut out pieces that you just traced then sew the pieces together, using the old car seat as a guide.
Step 5: Put the old car seat back on the seat, then put the new one (you just sewed together) and see how it fits. It should be snug. Adjust it to fit and make any changes.
Step 6: Sew bias tape around the edges, it makes it look clean cut and more professional. For those of you who are mystified by bias tape go here.
I hope this makes since and if you have any questions just ask. I've searched and searched and these are the only pictures I could find of the seat. I'm still searching for more because I know I took more, so you can get more of an idea of how cute it was. For now enjoy these...

Preserving my traditions and Memories

What are your traditions for birthdays, holidays, or other special days of the year? Traditions are important; they define our lives, our dreams, and the things that mean the most to us. Like the Butlers, you too have important family traditions to preserve.

All of your memories made me think of my own. I love this time of year, when the weather changes and gets cooler. One of my favorite memories was when I was in Clinton, Missouri.
I was serving a mission for the LDS church at the time. As I would walk down the streets of Clinton I remember the smell of the crisp autumn air and seeing all the oranges, reds, and browns. I would occationally pick up a huge maple leaf and press it in my scriptures. To this day I still have one or two leaves in my scriptures to always remember that time.

Adding some personality...

Does your little girls jeans have holes in them? Or are they so stained that she can't wear anymore? Well, if she's anything like my little girl than the answer to those questions is yes and yes. Here is a little tutorial of what you can do to put life back into those pair of pants and make them new again. Believe me your little girl will thank you.Step 1: Cut a piece of material double the length around the pant leg and cut the width double however long you want the ruffle to be. (I cut this one 4 in. so the ruffle would be 2 in.) Then, fold in half (wrong sides together) and press.

Then, stitch along raw edge but DON'T backstitch.Step 2: Pull on the bobbin thread to gather across the ruffle.Step 3: Stitch ends together, then trim seams.Step4: Pin ruffle to the pant leg, making sure that the gathers are even around the leg. Then stitch the ruffle to the leg. Step 5: Press the seam towards the ruffle. Repeat steps 1-5 for the other leg. Step 6: The fun part! Decorate the pants however you'd like. I had to hand stitch these flowers on because the legs were too skinny to fit on my machine.

My little girl loves these shorts and wears them every chance she gets.

"Snack Cups" Tutorial

I found this idea in this months issue of Family Fun magazine. "What a great idea!"
So I decided to try it and share it with all of you.
O.k. so the first thing you want to do is take your empty milk boxes (or other juice boxes, etc.) and wash them out, then let them dry

Then, draw a "U" shape on each side of the box and cut them out.Now, you should have a box that looks like this.Then, fold each side down to make the snack box.Now the fun part! Decorating it. You could use scrapbook paper, crayons, markers, etc.

Let the kids help! **Note-Using double stick tape works the best. Glue takes a long time to dry and it wrinkles the paper. They'll love this project and LOVE the snacks that come in it.Once it is decorated, put some velcro tabs on it and you have cute little snack cups. The great thing about these is that you can save money on baggies, and just in case the kids
"accidentally" throw them out, no problem they were free and easy to make.
Another use for them I just thought of is little party favor boxes. How cute is that?!
